Ta' Pinu Gharb Reviews
Malta's most revered church - the leg cast hangings say it all! Apr 27, 2016
Oh the sweet Lord! The Blessed Virgin of Ta' Pinu, or "Il-Madonna ta' Pinu" is a religious devotion which originated in Gozo and its fame has spread even to the Maltese living abroad.
The Virgin of Ta' Pinu has often been connected to several miraculous healings of both Maltese and foreigners, who claim to have been saved, healed or helped through the intercession of the Virgin. The Sanctuary is adorned with many ex-votos which have been given to this sanctuary by those who have either been healed, saved or received favours through the intercession of Our Lady Of Ta' Pinu. Today, these can still be seen by the many people who every day visit the basilica.I was rather stunned on seeing them. And dare I say this was the biggest attraction than the shrine itself!
There is a serpentine footpath across the church flanked by statues. One can get a good view of the Church and the town of Gharb. However, I was bored and tired and it was fairly hot so I gave it a miss.
I will overall recommend this place. Don't expect this artistic style Cathedral or anything... one doesn't go here to marvel at the architecture as it's a fairly new and minimalist building. The key attraction here is the devotion. And the leg casts!
