TV21 Manchester Reviews
TV21 Jun 19, 2011
TV21 is a bar in the Northern Quarter. It does food, but I’ve never eaten there and am reviewing it as a bar and night venue.
It is slightly mad. For a start, there can be very few bars, even in Manchester, where you are greeted by a full size model Predator from the Predator films. It’s just to the right of the door, with a slightly smaller metal one. Also, you can drink in a booth that looks like a space shuttle. Following the vaguely sci-fi nerd theme, the bar is decorated with loads of fairy lights. The main bar upstairs has large plate glass windows and can be a chilled out place in the day time, with big comfy sofas and lots of places to sit. There is a downstairs bar for dancing in at night.
The music policy is pretty much Indie, with some rock and pop. At night, this is a sticky floored, busy, loud place to dance badly and can be great fun. The ladies toilets are perfectly clean, although my male friends tell me that the boys toilets can be really quite dirty even in the day time and you sometimes have the choice between a stall with no seat or a stall with no paper. Still, that is not unusual for cheap nightclubs and bars in the UK. The drink prices are on the cheap side of average.
If you want a fun place to have a drink with a Predator, this is a good place to come. The sci fi posters and general nerdiness is endearing and I don’t think i've ever had a bad night here. But if you want a classy night out to impress a date, you are probably in the wrong place. Unless your date speaks Klingon. In which case, you’re fine.
