Wonderful view over the city Apr 09, 2013
The Zizkov television tower in Prague is a tower in a suburb from Prague. In the television tower is a observation deck from which you will have a great view over the city. You can watch in the different directions on this tower.

The tower has surprising decoration on the outside of the tower. Big black babies have been mounted on the tower. You can see the decoration from far away.

To reach the television tower it is recommended to take the green metro line (line A) to metro station 'Jiriho z Podebrad'. This station is situated in a small park and from this park you can see the tower and with a small walk you can reach the tower.

Maybe the tower itself is not so wonderful, but the view from this tower is great. So that is why I can recommended you to visit the tower when you visit Prague.

David Černý's Black Babies Sep 16, 2011
If you are looking for a free activity in Prague then I suggest walking across the city into Praha 3 and enjoy David Černý's Black Babies on Žižkov Television Tower.

In 2000 David Černý, a Czech artist known internationally for his controversial sculptural installations, attached several oversize and faceless 'Black Babies' to the exterior of the Žižkov Television Tower. It was an installation that came into existence because Prague was then voted "Cultural City" of Europe and the locals wanted Černý to create something for the occasion. After jumping through several hoops with the Mayor's Office Černý was able to create his installation of Black Babies.

The babies have no human faces but instead an imprint that looks very much like a USB port. They crawl all over the tower possibly looking for a way to plug into the rest of the world, otherwise they are lost and oblivious to their surroundings. Their attached to a Soviet era building brings a sense of humor to a building that has been scorned by locals since its construction in 1985 - supposedly the building itself was constructed to block Western radio signals during the communist era.

The locals have enjoyed the babies so much that what was originally meant to be a temporary exhibition in the tower was then transformed into a more permanent installation. You can see the tower from all over the city and if you look closely you can see babies as well.. But seeing them up close is pretty cool. well cool if your an art enthusiast like me :P

Also, the surrounding area is really quite pretty and nearby is a park, Riegrovy sady park, worth exploring.

Ugly in Prague May 08, 2009
You have got this beautiful city of Prague ... old historic buildings, beautiful bridges, and this hideous tower looming near the center of it all. That was what I thought of the Prague TV tower and I am quite sure everyone agrees. This tower was originally built to block Western radio signals from entering this communist city. Now its used to broadcast reality show TV programs. I think they should have knocked it down. It has faceless black babies crawling up the side of it which adds to its overall ugliness. But we had to go in, pay to have an elevator take us to the observation deck and even had a pretty nice lunch at the restaurant they have in the tower.
