An ugly square with a retro flair Jul 16, 2008
The Szczepanski square isn't the kind of place most tourists like to visit, basically because it is pretty ugly and there hardly is anything to do. But the fact that it is a bit run down and forgotten does give it a special atmosphere, so if you are on a stroll through Krakow, why not pass by to counter the "Disneyland" effect of the Rynek Glowny?

Centuries ago this square was a graveyard of the Jesuit priests. There were two churches at the side of Szczepanski. But the Jesuits were banned out of Krakow and the city decided to pave the square. The gravestones were removed but the bodies of course, just stayed where they were. And they still are today, underneath the parking space and glass bins, staring up to the soles of all those pass byers. So keep that in mind when you walk across, you never know what might come from under the ground ;)
