Syracuse Vacation Guide
Syracuse is a small city of approximately 150,000 in the northwest Finger Lakes region of New York State. It is roughly in the middle of the state, midway between Buffalo in the west and Albany in the east, along Interstate 90. Syracuse serves as an excellent starting point for touring the beautiful Finger Lakes and the wineries of the region. The many cultural venues and activities in Syracuse include the Everson Museum of Art, the Museum of Science and Technology (MOST), the Syracuse Stage, Syracuse Symphony Orchestra, Syracuse Opera, Harriet Tubman House and the Landmark Theater. The NY State Fair is held yearly at the Fairgrounds right outside the city.
Syracuse University is best known for its law and journalism programs, as well as athletics. Football and basketball are popular, and games for both programs are held in the Carrier Dome. The College of Environmental Science and Forestry (SUNY-ESF), a premiere institution in the field, is also located in Syracuse.

With some free time on my hands and a little savings to spend, I wanted to take a summer’s end trip. I’d first considered visiting a friend in L.A., but had already been to California once and figured someplace else might be more enriching. So I decided instead to head north into Canada. It would be my first trip beyond the national bounds of the United States.
