The Symphony of Lights is absolutely free unless you pay for a tour that includes it as one of its stops. You need to be on the Kowloon side of Victoria Harbour, facing Hong Kong Island. The best place to view them is on the Avenue of Stars which is similar to Hollywood Walk of Fame, but much smaller. You can find Jet Li's hand prints and there's a statue of Bruce Lee. Anyway, you want to be walking upward toward Star Ferry Terminal for the best view. There are lasers light connected to 60+ buildings on Hong Kong Island.

The reason I did not like the show was because all of the papers about it made it out to be spectacular. Only a few of the buildings light up at the same time and they don't even light up the whole building-it's just outlined of goes around the framing of the building. The way it was portrayed made it seem like the lights of Las Vegas times 100 because it's set to music. NOT THE CASE! If you have ever seen the lights of Las Vegas, you will think this is a joke.

At 8pm every night there's a free light show on the Hong Kong skyline, and it's a fantastic spectacle. The skyline itself is a really majestic sight at night (one of the best panoramas I saw in a year travelling). On the southern tip of Kowloon you can stand looking across the harbour to Hong Kong island, where there's a laser and light show. There is music playing on the Kowloon side. It only lasts about 10 minutes. Definitely worth going to see if you're in Hong Kong.

We decided to go to Ocean Park and then some walking along Queen's road to Lan Kwai Fong and then catch the symphony of lights. The symphony of lights is simply stunning, it is free, beautiful and inspiring. Of course, Goldne Bauhinia Sq is one of the best place to catch the buildings in the Tsim Sha Tsui area during the show, and you can hear the music… Ocean Park

At 7:45pm, we were booked on a Symphony of Lights Harbour Cruise, which takes you out onto the harbour to view the laser light show, this was pretty dodgy, they were calling it a cocktail cruise, and the drinks left a lot to be desired. I was almost glad when the ride… An enjoyable day

Another 2 hour trip back to HK Island, and I was just in time for the Symphony of Lights on the Avenue of the Stars. The show is named as the world’s largest permanent light and sound show by the Guinness World Records, and   lights come out from more than 40 buildings on both sides of the Victoria Harbour… Day 3 – There’s more to Hongkong than just the city

So when I woke up at 7, Zach, Marie (my Danish hostel mate), and I thought of watching the Symphony of Lights again at the Harbour all together. So off we went to see the ever spectactular show, I savouring my last night on the bay, wondering when I was ever going to come back to see it again.  I guess travellers always… Day 4 – Can't get enough of the view from the Harbour

Symphony of Lights.   The overpriced ticket was well worth it as getting there alone was an unforgettable trip.   The ride with the Peak Tram was so steep that the buildings we passed by looked like they were leaning -- it was frightening and fun all at the same… Arriving in Hong Kong
