Sydney Madang Korean BBQ Reviews
Good Korean alleyway restaurant Jan 31, 2016
S33°52.545' E151°12.469' up Pitt Street in an alley with three Korean restaurants, Sydney Madang on the left side has extended its premises upstairs and downstairs in the alley. Visiting South Korea in 2014, we wanted to known how much Aussie taste buds deluded the Korean menu.
In December 2015, the Sydney Madang surprised us with miso soup from their former Japanese oppressor. However, the Dolsot Bibimbap for AUS$17 restored our faith in the Korean kitchen. Good, although the vegetables were not in abundance. The same has to be said for the kimchi. Dissonant was the lettuce salad. Not seen before in Korea. The pepper soybeans sauce was much stronger than expected. Very good was the mushroom pancake: well prepared and an absolute winner for AUS$24. We finished our dinner with a bottle of Cass and Hite beer.
We liked the very Korean entourage with oversized air-conditioning unit blowing cold air over our table, the oversized LCD-television with K-pop music: very good Korean singing of Eurovision contest music. Meanwhile, the Korean exchange student improved his English pronunciation. "Level" was still a difficult word for him. The same has to be said about our Hangul.
The Korean kitchen has many nice flavours to offer, and Sydney Madang masters them almost all. Recommended.
