Great views obscured by wire mesh barriers! Feb 12, 2013
Prior to arriving in Sydney we had seen images of the Harbour Bridge as a proud icon of Sydney's architectural, cultural and historical splendour. It's synonymous with Sydney, like the Eiffel Tower to Paris. For this reason we decided to walk across the Sydney Harbour Bridge at a leisurely pace and enjoy the views from the famous landmark. After doing this we decided maybe enjoying it's sheer majesty can be better appreciated from the ground.

Like we expected, the views were fabulous of the surrounding Sydney CBD area, the Opera House, The Harbour, Luna Park etc. but unfortunately it feels slightly like a prison. There are unattractive, over the top, wire mesh grills with barbed wire running the whole way along the walkway. There's also a guard presence on the bridge - at least 5 men in uniform spread along the walkway. I am aware that this is there for a practical reason - to prevent suicides, but it obscures the otherwise wonderful views. Not only does it prevent good photos being taken but it ads a not-so-pleasant feeling while walking across it.

That was just my opinion on it anyway. Feel free to correct me if you think i am wrong.

Sydney harbour bridge Jun 04, 2011
The Sydney Harbour Bridge is a steel through arch bridge across Sydney Harbour that carries rail, vehicular, bicycle and pedestrian traffic between the Sydney central business district (CBD) and the North Shore. The dramatic view of the bridge, the harbour, and the nearby Sydney Opera House is an iconic image of both Sydney and Australia. The bridge is locally nicknamed "The Coat Hanger" because of its arch-based design.

Under the directions of Dr J.J.C. Bradfield of the NSW Department of Public Works, the bridge was designed and built by English firm Dorman Long and Co Ltd of Middlesbrough, and opened in 1932. According to the Guinness World Records, it is the world's widest long-span bridge. It is also the fifth longest spanning-arch bridge in the world, and it is the tallest steel arch bridge, measuring 134 metres (440 ft) from top to water level.Until 1967 the Harbour Bridge was Sydney's tallest structure

I was in Sydney few month ago, Its an awesome city especially with the harbour bridge, one of the most famous monument in Australia.

Cheap Bridge Climb Feb 28, 2011
If you want to get the amazing views from the Sydney Harbour Bridge, I wouldn't bother with the expensive bridge climb, but walk along the bridge to either pillar. Here you can climb to the top of either pillar for a fraction of the price (I think $9) and gain just as good a view. Also, unlike the bridge climb, you can take your own camera, and take as many photos as you like, this for me was the main factor.

I thought i was going to be scared of this attraction but its one of the best things i have ever done by far. Lovely view of Sydneys Skyline. The trip lasts 3 hours and is well worth it. Amazing view of the Famous Opera House as well. I did it during the day but realy wanted to do it at night to see Sydneys Nightlife high up.

Sydney Harbour Bridge without the pricetag Oct 17, 2009
Most visitors to Sydney are aware of the Harbour Bridge climb, which can be very expensive, but aren't aware that you can get a fantastic experience for the price of a train ticket - currently $4.20AUD. If you hop on the train at Wynyard and get out at Milsons Point, you can then walk back across the bridge with fantastic views of the harbour, Circular Quay and the Opera House, through to North Sydney and the Heads. The walk is about 3km in length from Milsons Point through to the histroric Rocks area of Sydney

Sydney Harbour Bridge Sep 12, 2009
With the Opera House, the Harbour Bridge is a symbol of Sydney. I honestly only felt like being in Sydney after seeing it. As its name suggests, it goes across Sydney Harbour.

Its architecture, a steel arch bridge, is amazing.

So far, I have gone:

- through it (driving but you can also walk or take the train : it is huge)

- under it (during a cruise from Darling Harbour)

- around it (sailing or walking as it is massive it can be seen from many places)

I hope I will someday refresh this review because I will have climbed it ! It is said to be expensive… but to be worth it !

It is the world's widest long-span bridge (50m), and the fifth-longest spanning-arch bridge in the world (1150m) ! It was built on 1932, what astonished me because it looks soooo modern to me !
