Swizz (Manhattan) Reviews

Dec 30, 2007
A few friends and I met up in NYC for dinner to start off our New Year's celebrations. We went to Swizz, where one of my friends had been before.

Swizz specializes in Swiss and American cuisine, with fondue being one of the main reasons it attracts people. My friend and I split a Traditional Cheese Fondue that serves two for $38 (they have two other types of cheese fondues) that comes with unlimited bread and then extra items (each for $3), such as steamed broccoli, spicy Italian sausage, mushrooms, apples, tiger shrimp, etc. It wasn't bad, but it would have been nice to get a bit more for the money with the additional items (ex- for $3 you get three small shrimp).

Two friends both got the Chicken Cordon-Bleu for $19 and said it was excellent, and the Swizz Beefburger for $12 was also well liked.

The best thing anyone got with our meal was chocolate fondue for dessert. Four of us got the Toblerone Chocolate Fondue ($18/two people) which was a sweet milk chocolate with nuts. The other four got the Jacques Torres Chocolate Fondue ($20/two people) which was a more bitter, dark chocolate without nuts. Both fondues came with marshmellows, bananas, apricots, cantaloupe, pineapples and some other cut up fruits. The Toblerone fondue was so good, we actually ended up asking for some more bread to get up the rest of the chocolate (and some spoons haha).

While kind of expensive for a bunch of college kids/medical school students, it was a really great experience. The food was good, the waitstaff was excellent (our waiter was from Austria which was cool) and it was a good time.
