A TRUE GEM May 22, 2008
The Swiss Alps Retreat Chalet Martin is one of those gems you stumble across from time to time. I almost don't want to tell anyone about this place because of how neat it is. If you find yourself in the area of Gryon, this is the place to stay.
Wooden floors, nice rooms, excellent sitting room and kitchen, great patios, and outdoor deck. I visited in the middle of May '08 and it was very quiet there. I am sure it can be hoping in mid summer and the peak ski season. Large loft with multiple beds; I stayed in a 6 bed room. I would go out of my way to stay here again. Only two things I did not like. Having to take my boots off before going in. I understand this rule; keeps the mud from boots being tracked all over. I took my boots off but kept them in my room. The wifi internet was very pricey! Not worth it at all!! Come on people, it's wifi; there should be only a very MINIMAL charge! Part of the Euro Trip 08 travel blog |

Chalet Swiss Alps Retreat Aug 05, 2009
Swiss Alps Retreat, if traveling by car is bloody hard to find at first, but once finding a place and asking the staff where the hell you can park your car, then it's time to chill out.
This hostel is not bad. Its in a lovely little village high up in the mountains on the main road between Villars and Bex, just east of the lake of Geneva. The staff are very friendly (not Swiss, they were American I think) and the building is a lovely little chalet with outstanding views of the mountains just east of Gyron. You can use the kitchen facilites (as long as you follow the house rules), and the beds are very comfortable in traditional style swiss chalet rooms. The only problem is, downstairs you can play music, etc, until 11pm, and after that it's lights out. Not a problem for me having light;s out, but if you want an early night, forget it as the noise goes right through the floorboards and will keep you awake! Doh! Just remember to take your shoes off! |
