Sweetheart Abbey New Abbey Reviews
Sweetheart Abbey Apr 10, 2010
Sweetheart Abbey was founded in the thirteenth century, by a rich lady in memory of her husband. His embalmed heart was buried with her, which is how the abbey got its name.
It is a very beautiful ruin, because the church was built from teh local red sandstone and it is reasonably well preserved.
The Abbey isn't cheap, because it is owned by historic Scotland. But there aren't many pink ruined churches with such romantic stories, and it is at least worth pulling up in the car park.
