Sweet Lady Jane's Reviews

i LOVE sweet lady jane.

this is a perfect spot if you want to have dessert after eating at one of the restaurants on nearby restaurant row on la cienega.

i have been coming here for years and each time, i order the same thing: the TRIPLE BERRY CAKE. basically, it is a yummy white cake that is moist and not too sweet. the cream is not too rich and is mixed with whole fresh strawberry, blackberry and raspberry. they serve one big generous slice. i love it love it love it.

there are other cakes here but i am partial to the triple berry. on this most recent visit, we also tried the italian rum cake, which was pretty but ok. but then again, i am just really partial to the triple berry cake.

sweet lady jane is pricey - for 2 slices of cake, a coffee and tea, the bill was about $20.

the servers are great althouth they could be rushed sometimes because it is almost always packed. this is a very small place so be prepared to wait or settle for take out.

if you come in late enough, they give away pastries (rolls, muffins, croissant, etc) for free -- they make pastries fresh everyday so those not bought would be thrown away. instead of throwing them away, they offer them to customers.

Sybil, thank you for your review :) I'm very into pastry making, have done lots of baking this past Christmas season especially since I started my very own undertable 'Christmas cookie' business :)...and would love to keep it up... :))) Anyway, I look for inspiration everywhere and your review fits perfectly into what I'm looking for :) Please, let me know about anything in this field you come across, what you find interesting, what you or your friends like, what's popular and such...I'm just so obsessed :)))
Anyway, Happy New Year to you, may it be filled with great travels, nice people, lots of sunshine, and happiness....xo e.

Some of the best cake around! Their desserts are light, fluffy and not-too-sweet. One of my favorites is the triple berry.

Located on Melrose near La Cienega, but really easy to miss because it's tiny and covered in ivy! Their cakes are not cheap, but definitely worth the price. They use cream instead of frosting, giving a distinctly European flavor to all their creations. This is the place to go if you're getting a cake for someone special or you need to make a good impression!

Truly a must try if you're in the area! They also serve tea and snacks, although seating is very limited inside.
The cake!

Yeah, their desserts are really special! (although I have a sneaking suspicion that Urth Cafe is starting to carry their desserts!) There are about 4 tables inside, so definitely great for intimate couple-dates, but probably not so great for a big group of friends!
