2 month trip through Southern Africa

Brian and I quit our jobs in Holland and left Amsterdam in October 2005. We spent several months backpacking from Ethiopia down to South Africa then up to Zambia. Heres just a few highlights of our trip.

The end of April and the beginning of May 2009 I visited South-Africa & Swaziland with my parents and sister for 16 days. This vacation was all about the safaris and wild animals! We were very excited about it and we couldn't wait to see the first wild animals. We visited Johannesburg, Pretoria, Ohrigstad, Pelgrim's Rest, Kruger National Park, Swaziland, KwaZulu-Natal, Zululand, Hluhluwe Wildpark, St. Lucia, Durban, Drakensbergen and lots of little villages inbetween.

When we were half way up Sheba’s Breast, huffing and puffing, totally out of breath since out of shape, but enjoying it, we thanked our lucky stars that we had not tried the ascent the previous day at noon. At 10 o’clock in the morning, the sun was blistering hot already and no shade anywhere! …

4 Weeks of South Africa in a camper with the kids. Itinerary: Jo'burg, Krugerpark (Skukuza/Berg en Dal), Swaziland (Mlilwane/Hlane), Ithala, Mkuze, Hluhluwe, St. Lucia, Drakenbergen, Jo'burg. First I'm adding the photo's; hopefully I'll get to the blogging and reviewing after that... ;-)

After 6 months of travelling many things have happened. I saw whalesharks in Mozambique, heard lions roaring in Serengeti, smelled exotic spices in Zanzibar. Froze on the way to the summit of Kilimanjaro and sweated in the deserts of Oman. Met Xhosa people with painted faces in South Africa, sipped black tea with Pakistani workers in the Emirates and walked with Buddhist monks around stupas in Nepal...

We staan om 05:00 op om bij het watergat naar het begin van de dag te kijken. Als Trudy naar buiten kijkt staat er een impala recht voor het raam. We zijn om 05:30 bij het watergat en Cees is er al. We hebben peperkoek en water bij ons, want we krijgen pas om 08:30 ontbijt. Er komen niet veel diere…
