"the wonderful world of crystal" Feb 12, 2011
Wattens is a small "village" near Innsbruck and it is known for one thing and one thing alone ... CRYSTAL!

Swarovski Kristalwelten is easily acccessible with your car, it is just a few minutes away from the highway, just follow the famous signs and in no time you are within this wonderful world.

If you don't have a car you can also take a bus from the center of Innsbruck that goes directly to Kristalwelten in Wattens. A roundtrip costs about 8,5 euro (Jan. 2011)

On the domain itself there is a playground for the kids and of course you will find here the famous maze in the shape of a hand next to other amazing sculptures.

Once you "enter" the gaint you go into the wonderful world of crystal. You first have to buy your ticket which is about 9,5 euro (Jan. 2011) which I personally find a little bit expensive.

I expected to learn more about crystal and the Swarovski family ... instead I found behind the crystal wall a permanent exhibition of different artists. It wasn't a total disappointment, but I think that lots of people like to learn more about the founders of this mineral.

When you leave to exhibition, you automatically go into the shop. Here you can buy as many crystals as you like ... from jewelry to very expensive figurines.

I am sure that you don't leave to shop without buying a small souvenir! ;P

If you want to skip the exhibition and just want to visit the shop, ask for your free ticket at the ticket office.

swarovski crystals factory: a bit of liberace Mar 20, 2008
Little did people know that in the small town of wattens, south of innsbruck austria, lies the swarovski crystal factory. It is located in a valley amidst the dramatic backdrop of the bettelwurf mountain range.

the factory has a museum - the swarovski museum - it cost about 5-7 euros entrance (cant remember) - and inside showcases the history of the crystals - which are mined in siberia.

hen i was there - the loudspeaker was in german and italian - since both are the dominating languages of the tirol region in the alps.

inside they showcase exhibitions of famous artists - like pablo neruda and pablo picasso which were crystalized and inside the breathtaking krystall kügel (crystal orb) where lightshows are inside and amazing laser effects while an opera singer sings in the background.

i highly recommend the swarovski crystal museum to anyone who are in innsbruck - its just a 20 minute drive south from it to the town of wattens.

Worth the money! Jul 10, 2008
If you are a budget traveler, this place is a little expensive for the amount of time it takes to go through it. This is honestly one of the most interesting places I've been. It's not really a place to showcase the crystal's that they can make, but rather a showcase of artists that have used the crystals in their work. It's not just looking at pictures on the wall though. It's things that dance, move and change shape that display the crystals. I'm not sure how else to explain it other than it is a must if you are in the area!

Very Interesting place. You got to see the room of crystals it is amazing and the crystal wall that runs through the place. I also found interesting the sculpture at the entrance its beautiful! The articles at the store are a bit expensive but worth it.
