Swami Vivekananda Rock Memorial Kanyakumari Reviews
Another Meditation place Feb 04, 2012
The most visited place in Kanyakumari is Vivekananda Rock Memorial. This is a must visit place. Swami Vivekananda spent 3 days here at “Shripada Parai” during 24th, 25th and 26th December 1892 for meditation and enlightenment. This memorial park is situated near the shore. 10 minitue boat ride is needed to reach the memorial and costs around US 50 cents.
There are 2 madapams in this complex and a small entrance fee is charged to see the place. (Around 25 US cents for Indian nationals)
The rock where this memorial built is a sacred place from ancient times and known as “Sripada Parai. As per legend, this rock is blessed by the touch of Shripada feet of the Goddess. We can see a human foot in shripada Mandapam.
Swami Vivekananda idol is in Vivekananda mandapam. In the morning at sunrise we can hear the sound of Sanku and see the religious flag hoisting here.
Foot wear is not allowed inside. We need to keep our footwear in a counter at the entrance. Thiruvalluvar statue can be seen next to this rock.
