Quite possibly the best Japanese retaurant in Brighton Mar 22, 2012
Based on Preston Street, Sushi garden has a lot of competition on this restaurant filled road. Despite the stiff competition on offer here, it is definitely worth checking out.

The menu is vast and varied. For those of you that have had Japanese food before, you'll be pleased to know you can find all of your favourites here and a lot of new things to try too. To start with there is the largest selection of sushi I've seen on offer in a UK restaurant. If you are not a fan of sushi there is a large selection of cooked dishes covering everything from ramen (soup & noodle dishes) to teriyaki curries to tempura prawns/vegetables to various sea food dishes. There is enough variety here for meat eaters and vegetarians alike. In fact so large is the selection that it may be worth getting a rough idea of what you want before you head here if you are the indecisive type when faced with so much choice ;-)

The food is freshly prepared and it's possible to see at least some of the food preparation area in the centre of the restaurant which adds to the atmosphere. The menu is a laminated booklet that has pictures of a lot of the dishes on offer. The ambience is fantastic with great decor giving the place a real Japanese feel. Kimono's and sandles are worn by the staff who are very attentive and extremely polite. One could be forgiven for believing they had arrived in Japan upon entering this restaurant.

It's worth noting however a meal here is not going to be cheap but this is very much a place where you get what you pay for. I've been here several times in the evening and the food has been consistently good. On average it's possible to spend between £30 to £45 for a meal depending on how hungry you are and if you are drinking alcoholic beverages. It is possible to eat full meals here for less (around £25) if you are ordering one of the larger main dishes or from the set menu. Thankfully service is included.

I can honestly say as a huge fan of Japanese food that Sushi Garden is the best place to enjoy this type of food in Brighton and believe me I've sampled almost all of the others. If you have the cash to match the appetite I'd definitely give it a go.
