Surprise Overview

Official Tourism Site: http://visitsurpriseaz.com/

Surprise (population 115,000) was founded in 1938 by Flora Mae Statler, who named it Surprise as she "would be surprised if the town ever amounted to much."

Each year thousands of visitors come to Surprise, Arizona, to enjoy blue skies, sunshine, and spring training games. Surprise has wonderful golf courses, museums, restaurants, and plenty of trails for biking and hiking. Consistently Surprise has been rated as one of the safest cities in the Southwest. Our city is new and upcoming, so it's no "surprise" that the city is often called the "playground of the West Valley."

Flanked by one of Arizona's largest mountain preserves, White Tank Regional Park is situated in the saguaro-dotted Sonoran Desert and is only minutes away. Plan a day trip for some fun adventure -- hiking, biking and horseback riding.
