ATTN: AZ Hikers Dec 17, 2013
The AZ superstition mountains offer a variety of trails and hikes, makin for a GREAT adventure! My favorite hike in these mountains is the Flat Iron trail. I believe you have to pay for parking, and you might want to purchase extra water and a snack. The trail can be slightly difficult to follow if you don't have a map, but the views are amazing. After parking there's quite a walk from the parking lot, to the mountain itself. this is not an easy hike for children or inexperienced hikers. There are several neat spots to stop and take pictures. Once on the mountain, the mountain is marked with blue arrows to guide you to the Flat Iron. The difficult parts of this climb are the slip rock areas where water falls down the mountain after rain and snowy seasons, as well as one part of the hike where you literally have to rock climb about 8 ft up. So tired once we got to the top, but the view is well worth the muscle pain I felt the next day!!
