Sunwest Guesthouse Phuket Reviews
Nice Stopover Spot in Phuket Town Nov 07, 2011
I actually stayed here twice for a total of 5 nights because I liked it so much the first time! For 200 baht per night in a shared room or 400-some baht for a very pleasant private non-AC double you're getting quite a bit for your money. The rooms and bathrooms (there are two coming off the dorm) are clean and the doors into the guesthouse and the rooms are protected with electronic locks for which you'll get a key card. Tours and ferries to islands in the Phuket area are easily booked at the front desk, and the women working there are wonderfully friendly and helpful even if their English is a bit limited. There are computers in the lobby for guests, plus free wifi throughout the hostel. What I liked the most, though, is that there's a kitchen on the first floor for guests to use complete with pots, dishes, and even some spices!
The hostel is an easy walk (maybe 10 minutes) from the Old Phuket area, which is filled with restaurants, bars, art galleries, used book stores, and lots of cute little shops for clothes and souvenirs. It's also close to the regional bus station and local bus starting point - ask for a free map at the desk and they'll point everything out to you!
