Most Memorable Travel Experience
I was picked up from my hotel - the comfortable and warm Plantation Inn in Lahaina, Maui - way before the sun was even thinking of coming up (approx 2.30am) and taken to a depot to be fitted out in a glamorous (but warm) blue jump suit reminiscent of a bad parachuting suit. There I met my tour guide who gave me tips on how to ride a bike (something I have been doing for a reeeaaaly looong time), then bundled into a mini bus and taken to the summit of the Haleakala (House of the Sun) Volcano. We arrived before the sun and enjoyed the view of the sparkling star-filled sky then watched the sunrise as I was standing above the clouds. Magnificent! Those who say it is coldest just before the dawn are 100% correct. My fellow riders and I jumped on our bikes and headed on down the mountain at a leisurely pace while enjoying the fantastic view. Our ride took us through the stunning countryside of Maui and on to the coast and the vast Pacific Ocean. Definitely worth it and I would do it again in a heartbeat.

I want to see the world. I know it's too late for me to see all of it, but I am going to give it my best shot. My problem is I fall in love with a place and want to go back again and again. Mahalo Hawaii! I’m just glad Hawaii is reasonably close to Australia and only takes me nine hours on a plane to get there. It was my plan to go back in 2007 but a girlfriend talked me into going to Queenstown instead. I am going this year instead. I inherited a mild case of itchy feet and adventure from my mother who did the unusual thing for her day of travelling the world in her early twenties and waiting to get married. My dad came to Australia from Germany in the ‘50’s. So thanks mum and dad for passing your sense of adventure on to me. I had seen a lot of Australia by the time I was in my teens, but I want to keep exploring and seeing more, more, more!!! I would also like to go back to places I visited when I was young and see them with an adult’s eye.
