Sun Island Resort and Spa Ari Atoll Reviews
Awsome Place!!!!!!!!!!” May 26, 2014
We travelled from Abu Dhabi...on Srilankan with a transit in Colombo which is a total of about 6 hours flying time.We had a sea plane transfer one way and a boat transfer while returning but they gave us a free upgrade as the speed boat got cancelled.
Arrived in Male which is a really small airport, has nothing much but just the basic facilities, most of the shops accept only the local currency so you might have to change currency, there is an exchange in the entrance of the arrival gate.
Firstly we made our booking directly writh the resort and they did give us a free upgrade from Halfboard to Fullboard, I dont really recommend All inclusive , but full board is a must unless you want to try the different restaurants.
Once you arrive in Male, there are different booths that represent the respective resorts, I think for Sun Island its counter 11(not sure, but they are all in the same place and have big signs, so not hard top find). You just walk up to the counter an hand them your booking an a rep guides you to the bus from where you are taken to a nice little lounge before you take your seaplane.(Recommend this as the views of the atolls are awsome and it takes only 30 mins , by boat it is 3 hours.)Everyone at the airport is super friendly..so you get info really easy.
After the 30 min seaplane ride...you land at sunisland ...from where you are taken to the reception jetty by boat....your first glimple of the resort is something you will not forget in a long time.....different shades of blue everywhere...and the weather was just perfect 28 degrees, sunny.
All you need to do get good service is be polite to the staff ...really ..they dont expect any tips at alll....but we did tip as we normally do antwhere in the world....its just a small way of thanking the staff for taking care of you!We just requested for a room with a nice location and thats wat we got..it was a super deluxe bunglow room 167....try to get room 160-170 if possible as these have a nice stretch of beach in front of them with trees that have shade and they are close to all the facilities.Oh yeah and you get a wet towel as soon as you arrive and cool coconut water which is nice and refreshing..sometimes when there are lots of people arriving...you might have to wait a little to get your room...but you can keep yourself busy by taking in the beautiful sight of the blue sea :).
The island also has a good collection of shops......with everything from designer jewellery to souveniers..to beach gear....so if you forget to bring something dont worry.....you can buy it....on the island.........although i read many reviews that things on the island are expensive, personally i thought it was not by much....but it is better to get wat you need before you get here.olf bug
Also once you are taken to your room(mostly by a golf cart)..your luggauge takes some time to arrive, make sure you call the reception a couple of times and request your luggauge to be delivered as soon as possible
The island itself is quite big........you can walk around the whole island in about 45 mins- and hour....and it has some nice stretches of beach. The snorkelling is the best by the beach bunglows where you can swim with baby sharks, jack fish and in our case we even got to get very close to a trigger fish(be careful they bite), this is where ppl mostly snorkel(good to take your snorkelling gear or you can rent it, dont know how much cause we took it with us).FOr good swimmers you can go by the Italian or thai restaurant..but the currents get pretty strong......we dint try the diving school but it looked like a fun thing you should not miss..maybe nexttime....
The food for HB and FB,AI is served in the main restaurant and we thought it was an amazing spread.......there is so much variety that even if they repeat it...its ok....cause you cant eat it all........we were extremely happy with the food......lots of fruit, desserts etc..and every day there one or more dishes prepared in the middle of the restaurant among at least 20 other dishes...we are fitness freaks and we thought it was healthy food too :)....
The rooms, are pretty basic...... but extremely clean and well kept....you have housekeeping come in twice a day and replace towels.....there was a nice outdoor shower which was very nice
All the staff are friendly ....but then again remember you give respect and you get it .......be patient as sometimes they take their time to do things..but no point loosing you head over it......but mostly the staff is extremely helpful and try to do their best for you.
Every night at 9:00 there is something organized to keep the guests busy(karoake, crab race etc)..and there is also the ray feeding and shark feeding at 9 and 10 pm respectly......you can also feed the manta rays by th italian restaurant everday at 10.30 i think...but you have to ask ...it is not displayed anywhere.....we just got to know when we were there..........
The spa is amazing.....must visit..its near the water bunglows.....
oh yeah...and the pool is just awsome...with a waterfall and a poolbar...where you can hang out for hours :)....
If your room is far you can always rent a bike which we did for a day just for fun.....its nice to cycle around the island.....basically if you are not on a tight budget Maldives is an amazing place...all the people complaining on this forum basically wanted to get more for what they paid.....personally thats why i think they were whining so much...but anywhere you go in maldives the sea, sun and sand are just awesome!
There is a pretty decently equipped gym, lots of sports-tennis,bball, table tennis etc………
Well I can go on and on ..but if you really need some specific info ..just mail me and I will be more than happy to answer…..Have fun on Sun Island
Oh yeah and make sure you take an under water camera!!
