Not bad at all but tasted nicer ones Sep 23, 2009
Unlimited food in two hours, that's the concept of Sumo Sushi & Grill restaurant in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. They have two branches in Rotterdam but this review is about the one located at the Westersingel 1a.
It's not the typical conveyor belt Japanese Sushi bar but they work with a card on which you can mark what you want to order. It works like this: there are six rounds in two hours. Per round choose maximal five items per person. Seems little but not every item is just one single piece of course. The next round start again when you finished all you ordered. To give you some indication, we reached until round three. Don't order more then you can finish cause you pay extra for what you can't finish, to prevent wasting food. Good rule if you ask me. Oh and needless to say perhaps, for drinks you need to pay separately. They have quite a number things to choose from but some things like for example Edamame (boiled baby soyabean in the pod) and Chawanmushi (steamed egg) we couldn't find. Nevertheless the selection is quite big, certainly more then you could ever all try in those six rounds. Overall speaking, the flavour was nice especially the Tori Karaage (deep fried chicken). The orders came fast and empty plates cleared quickly.
