Summit, Mississippi is a sleepy Southern town on Interstate 55 almost half way between Jackson, MS and New Orleans, LA. Fast food is found close to the exit, but a very short drive into town, you will find better samples of the local flavor. The town has one traffic light and one flashing red light at at 4-way stop. Summit is home of Southwest Mississippi Community College with a student enrollment of about 1,800 students, which is greater than the 1,500 resident population of the town. Primary industries in the area are Timber (logging), Railroad, and Agriculture.

In 2008 the town celebrated its sesquicentennial, although the area's history and inhabitants precede its incorporation. Early legends like Jessie James and his gang would sometimes frequent the Godbold Mineral Wells & Spa. Summit is also mentioned in many stories by the comedian Jerry Clower.
