Summerdale Diner - Inside the Summerdale Diner, decked out for the holidays.
Summerdale Diner - One of the warning signs of vintage diner fare...
Summerdale Diner - Plenty of deadly dishes in here...those Deep Fried Chicken Croquettes are smothered in chicken gravy, of course!
Summerdale Diner - Despite appearing empty, the Summerdale Diner is ENORMOUS and even though there were many folks joining us for a meal, still plenty of wide open spaces!

It’s a good thing I’ve been coming here for years, because the Summerdale Diner fails my litmus test for roadside eateries – no chicken & waffles on the menu! Summerdale earns a free pass due to offering a classic substitute – Deep Fried Chicken Croquettes, “deep fried golden brown and topped with chicken gravy.” Like chicken & waffles, you can’t find this deadly stuff around any longer, so let’s eat.

Despite making an effort to look like a silver train car, the Summerdale is just too huge to have the curb appeal of your typical diner. Rest assured the menu and service are the real McCoy, so don’t be surprised if you wind up ordering a plate of Grilled Baby Beef Liver. As spacious as Summerdale is, there’s always a good crowd, testifying to the quality of their food.

I usually order their Chef Salad because it is huge and tasty, but the menu is broad so there’s plenty to pick from. Mom and I have also enjoyed breakfast here several times over the years and I can vouch for the value of their morning fare as well. A top notch diner if you are craving some vintage Americana.

Guess they do get a pass for not offering Chicken & Waffles, but Fried Chicken Croquettes smothered in gravy in its stead!
