Suizenji Jojuen Garden Kumamoto Reviews
Beautiful landscaped garden Jul 24, 2000
With a free day, which I didn't want to spend in Aso, me and 2 ladies from the travel group took the train to Kumamoto. After getting a tourist map from an information desk, we decided that the Suizenji Jojuen Garden was the first place that we wanted to see on this day.
Build by the Hosokawa family in the 17th century, it was designed to model Tokaido route (an ancient road which connected Kyoto with Tokyo. One of the mean features is a hill representing Mount Fuji.
The garden also features the Izumi Shinto Shrine, the Kagura Theater and a tea house, where we had a tea break. Japanese green tea and a sweetened egg. The egg wasn't so tasteful, but the tea and the view over the lake was a very nice experience.
An entrance ticket to the park costs 400 yen (around 3,75 euros or around 5 US dollars). A good price to spend some time or even a few hours walking around this beautiful garden/park.
Part of the list What to see and do in Japan
