Sugar Maple Cabins Sevierville Reviews
"Smoky Mountain Bliss" cabin was all that and more! May 23, 2010
We stayed in the 3 bedroom "Smoky Mountain Bliss" cabin in April 2010. It is currently managed by Sugar Maple Cabins, but we found it by going to http://www.WOWCabin.com.
It was located in Pigeon Forge, but only a 20 minute drive to Gatlinburg.
I'll give both pros and cons of the cabin.
The wraparound views were just like the photos, but better. We would have loved to use the hot tub, but didn't get a chance to use it. We loved eating at the outside dinette or on the picnic table, under the porch ceiling fan. We liked that we were in a resort, but at the end of the street next to the woods for more privacy from our neighbors. We probably had the best view in the resort too. The porch swing was one of the most relaxing places in the cabin, gently swaying while looking out at the mountains. There were enough rocking chairs for everyone too.
The "spaceship" shower/jacuzzi downstairs was amazing. We loved having the radio in the shower, the steam feature, the LED lights, and the jetted sprays--it was truly showering in luxury! We also appreciated the instructions posted in the bathroom and in the welcome book to help us figure out the futuristic controls.
The secure high speed wireless Internet connection was fast, steady and reliable, and we logged to it without problems--probably because it was cable-based instead of satellite like other parts of the mountains. We were grateful the WiFi was password protected so nobody could snoop into our surfing.
The in-cabin library was a nice touch. It was stocked with enough dvds, vhs tapes, books and games for everyone in our family to last us a few weeks!
The local zip lines (Wahoo Ziplines) were tons of fun! Our five year old was scared at first, but the guide went with her, so she was more confident. By the end of the zip tour, she raced me on her own zip line! I have been on other zip lines before that were more strenuous, but the zip lines at Smoky Mountain Bliss cabin were delightfully easy to use--good for all family members. I especially enjoyed seeing the mountain tops and countryside from the zip lines.
The night was so peaceful, looking out at the twinkling lights on the mountainsides. We could peek into Pigeon Forge valley lights, but not enough to wash out our view of the stars. It was quiet and serene. We especially enjoyed watching the fireworks at the new Titanic grand opening from our balcony. 4th of July must be amazing from the deck!
You could also tell the owners had paid a lot of attention to detail in taking care of this cabin: all the designer bedding was brand new, including the pillows, quilts, mattress and mattress covers. The were bear-themed coasters everywhere for our drinks. The outlets even had cute little bear themes on them. There was beautiful photography and artwork on the walls. It felt very homey, yet upscale. It was also evident they had just cleaned the place--no spiders, ladybugs, etc.
The kitchen with new appliances was stocked too: The T-Fal stainless steel cookware was all new; there were wine glasses; bottle openers; whisks, knife sharpeners--all the "little things" you take for granted in your home kitchen. There was even a selection of cookbooks to give us some meal ideas! Some had quick and easy recipes (Rachel Ray) so we could enjoy more time on vacation instead of in the kitchen, others focused on local recipes and international cuisines. Pizza, chinese, and italian delivery was available (and there were menus in the cabin), but we were so close to town that we just drove ourselves.
The Sugar Maple Cabins check-in was a little far from our cabin (20 minutes), but at least we didn't have to go back for check-out and it was a quick and easy drive to Knoxville airport using back roads (tip: Avoid I-40 and take Chapman Highway to Gov. Sevier Hwy to Alcoa Hwy). Plus, the cabin was just 5-10 minutes to the Parkway, so it was close to all the action.
The kiddie pool and waterfall looked like fun but it and the outdoor pool were only open during the summer months so we couldn't use them while we were there, even though it was a very hot weekend. Still, we cooled off with the porch ceiling fans or stayed inside playing the arcade machine, billiards table, or watching movies.
There were no bar stools at the kitchen counter. We understood that they had just been ordered and would be arriving after our stay. There was enough room for us at the dining table, but it would have been nice to use the breakfast bar while we were there.
In all, it was a fabulous stay at a fabulous cabin. Tons to do, lots of relaxing, and a truly blissful experience. We hope to return next year.
