MY boyfriend and i thought we could get away with not buying tickets every time. not true. costs 20 euros upfront when they catch you-often waiting at the bottom of the escalators!

There are regular inspections on the Metro in Budapest so its best to buy tickets. We where told it was 5000 HUF in fine if you where caught. My ticket was inspected once during my stay in Budapest.

There where never one inspection on the Tram or the Bus, so if you want to live dangerous this is the way to go.
