Sturgeon Bay is the county seat of Door County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 9,437 at the 2000 census. It is located at the natural end of Sturgeon Bay, although a canal was built across the remainder of the Door Peninsula.
Because of this city's proximity between Green Bay and Lake Michigan, this location was frequented by many Native American tribes throughout it's history.
Sturgeon Bay is the largest city in Door County, which is the peninsula of Wisconsin, and serves as the economic and governmental center of the region.
Considered to be the tip of the Midwest's Cape Cod, this city is reminiscent of the 1950's when boutique mom-and-pop shops dotted the downtown offering unique goods and services. A great museum that chronicles Green Bay and Lake Michigan shipwrecks, lighthouses, and the pioneer fisherman families that dotted the shoreline as the state grew.

I went to visit an old college friend in Green Bay, Wisconsin, where she described herself as living in exile. But after a few complaints about not living in England anymore, she showed me a little of Wisconsin and it turns out she's living in one of the most beautiful places I've seen. Winter here is great! And as a bonus I also got the weekend in Chicago, which I've decided is a contender for my favourite city in the States. As you can tell, it was a great trip.

I have spent 41 summers in Door County, Wisconsin. What a great place to vacation close to Chicago. It reminds me of a small New England fishing village. Many great memories of friends and family along the way. Best time to go is fall but the summers are really nice also.
Boulder Junction is in North Central Wisconsin and is just as beautiful. More rustic and outdoor specific. Either way you can't go wrong.
