excellent hostel in the heart of PLaka district Nov 03, 2010
In Athens there are so many hostels to choose from it might be a difficult task selecting one for your stay.

This review might be of some help if you’re looking for a nice place in an attractive and safe neighbourhood and don’t want to spend too much.

Situated right in the heart of the Plaka it’s location is it’s biggest trump. Out the front door, take a right turn and you are right in one of the (touristy) restaurant areas of the Plaka. This location makes it somewhat noisy for street-side rooms but the streets surrounding the hostel are free of motorised traffic so it’s still bearable.

It’s an old building with narrow corridors and small rooms that are part of it’s charm.

Some rooms have bathrooms, others have just a washbasin. Showers are present on every floor. They are nothing fancy and not new but they serve their purpose well. Some of them have plastic mats that are so hard your feet hurt after a few minutes so slippers might come in handy.

Air conditioning is present in every room but it’s humming can be a bit of a bother.

Breakfast is available in the courtyard which is covered only by a wooden frame overgrown with a grape bush.

In the evening there are beers and a few cocktails available from the bar in the same cosy courtyard. A vending machine supplies soft drinks.

Another big advantage this hostel has is it’s excellent travel service. In a small office across from reception you can get all the information you might need for your further travels in Greece. They can get you train or bus schedules or book hotels anywhere in Greece for you at no extra cost. Ferry tickets to the islands are also sold as are guided walking tours of Athens.

This is truly a top hostel. It’s not the cheapest and not all the staff are equally friendly but that is more than made up for by it’s location and service to their guests.

-7 different kinds of breakfast available at € 3,00 - € 5,00

-Laundry service at € 8,00 per load of 5 kg/ 11 Lbs

-Free (wireless) internet

-Money exchange

-Wake up call service (telephones in room)

-Rooms around € 60,00 (private double), € 25,00 (dorm bed, shared bathroom)

-Payment in cash only (an ATM is located just 100 m from the hotel, turn right out the front door. The bank is 10m into a side street on the right)

about 5 nights at student travellers inn in athens Mar 17, 2008
It is not the cheapest, of course it is not the most comfortable place to stay either, but its location is excellent. About 5 minutes walk from Syntagma square, at the midst of Placa district. 15 minutes walk to the Acropolis, 10 minutes to Olympian Zeus. Because X95 bus connecting Syntagma and the airport 24 hours a day, it is also convinient to move.

The front operates 24hours a day, the staffs was very friendly. They have single, double and 4 to 8 beds dorm. A bed in 4 beds dorm was 20 euros/night. The room is clean and some of them has balcony, which has good view of the old town of Placa. Breakfast is not included.
