Stroud is a wicked little town in a sleepy corner of Gloucestershire. There's nothing outstanding about the place; but it is a very nice town to relax in for a weekend. Easily accessed by train from London Victoria or road (M5 J13, or A419 from Cirencester/Oxford). Many people in Stroud enjoy walking, cycling, eating out, pagan worship and getting the hell out of Stroud.
Stroud has a rich bohemian heritage, from the early works of William Morris in the nearby Nympsfield, to the author Laurie Lee and the artist Damien Hirst recently setting up shop in Chalford. There are many people who choose to live here on account of the beautiful countryside and green attitude of the town's leaders.
