Strange but True: Falafel in the Carribean Reviews
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Apr 19, 2006I have to tell you a secret: Local Dominican cuisine is, for the most part, horrible. Yes, they have tropical fruit, amazing coffee and rum, but besides “tostones” the actual local food is something to avoid. That said, what is good to eat in the DR? In a word: Falafel. Strange but true, there is an amazing falafel joint a couple of blocks off of the very toursity Conde. Not only is the food miles away from either typical Dominican fare or greasy, overpriced American fastfood, the café itself has a lot of character. Large tempra paintings by a local artist grace the multicolored walls, nothing like the cheap, mass produced “hatian paintings” that are churned out everywhere in Santo Domingo. Best of all, the place usually has very few people, so you won’t get swamped by tourists. |
