Strandbar Mitte (City Beach Bar) Berlin Reviews
Outdoor drinking and dancing by the river Spree Jul 22, 2011
A great place to unwind in the evening as the sun sets, whilst watching dancers tango-ing on the dancefloor and party boats cruising along the river.
Strandbar Mitte enjoys a great location on the banks of the river Spree, just next to the beautiful Bodemuseum and with views of that great Berlin icon, der Fernsehturm (television tower).
There are free deck chairs and Strandkörber (beachbaskets,)a lively bar and you can buy stone baked pizzas here too. Whenever I've been here, the service has always been very fast and friendly, even when the bar has been really busy. The drinks tend always to be served pretty warm though.
The dance floor is lit up at night and even if you aren't a dancer, a lot of people enjoy just sitting on the steps from the bar and the bridge watching the action below. Earlier in the evening it is very much latin american and tango, livens up a bit when the sun has gone down.
The bar, dance floor and terrace along the Spree River seem to be mostly frequently by locals or other Germans, and often visited by passing Hen parties. I think probably many tourists aren't aware of it's existance. Although it is in the Mitte district - on the east side of the city and very central, it is a bit tucked away behind Monbijou Park.
The park is full of young Berliners at the weekend enjoying evening/late night barbequeing and drinking. At other times, make sure you take the street approach - up Monbijoustraße, just past the park - off Oranienburger Straße.
Part of the list Berlin - Beautiful, Beautiful Berlin
