StraitsKitchen Singapore Reviews
Straits Kitchen Sep 18, 2014
Straits Kitchen is a Halal Restaurant serving asian cuisine, more so Malaysian/Singaporean Cuisine.
It has a beautiful concept whereby it is set up like how you would see/get in streets/hawker centres. Each station offer different food, i.e:
- chicken/duck rice with the chickens/ducks hanging by the window like how you'd order from typical Chinese stalls,
- noodles/laksa where they prepare it in front of you and you get to choose your ingredients
- satay - also bbq-ed behind the glass
- popiah (fresh vegetable roll) prepared on the spot
- fruit and fresh juice
- dessert/ice cream (including durian flavour)
It looks very much like how a food court is, except you order and each as much as you like (buffet that is). If you're interested to try all popular local cuisine in one place (and in 'style'), this would be your choice. Food quality, yeah, it tastes really like those you get in hawkers stalls, even better. This is actually a compliment as hotel food, to me, usually has less oomph...And if compare the price, of course it's land and sky.
Place is quite crowded, and opens for only 2.5 hours for buffet lunch. A bit rush though. 10 minutes before time the waiters/waitresses will go around reminding the diners.
Service was below expectations for a 5-star hotel. The waiters/waitresses were obviously trying hard to avoid eye contact so that they don't have to serve you. The Banquet Manager however, was exemplary.
I'd say it's a nice place with nice food, but to avoid burning my pocket, I'd still go for hawker stalls.
