Stones Throw Winery Egg Harbor Reviews
Stone's Throw Winery Jul 01, 2009
Stone's Throw Winery and tasting room is most like a California winery layout from all the other wineries in the area.
The primary building is similar to a Frank Lloyd Wright design, very angular. Inside the tasting room the feel is of a very old and renovated barn with thick, ancient beams across the ceiling and old stone walls. Nicely done from the interior design to the calming landscaping on the outside.
A large selection of wines produced from California grapes that had been trucked in to make these wines. The vineyard outside is too young to produce their own grapes yet, so all wines are brought in from California.
I find these wines to be good quality with the Pinot Grisio and Sauvingnon Blanc as my favorites. Also, the cabernet reserve is also lovely, but well overpriced priced at $52 per bottle.
This winery also features a number of blends with they refer to by number: 20/80, 40/60, etc. These blends are interesting combinations, lively, and some have good richness and depth. Each blend is $25. Their least expensive wine goes for $17 per bottle.
Wine tasting includes 5 samples for $5.00 and includes a logo'd glass to keep (though I don't believe the glass is any particular quality.)
This winery has the biggest marketing budget so subsequently gets the best exposure in the populated, southern cities in the state.
Overall, a nice experience and a beautiful surrounding. A few of the many wines are award winners, though I didn't notice many gold metal winners in the bunch. All vinifera wines.
Though the layout is lovely, it is quite a drive north of Green Bay (about 1 45 minutes) and this winery does not seem to be laid out to encourage visitors to linger.
