Stonehaven is in North East Scotland

Stonehaven is a very small town, so walking is your best bet.
There are taxis in the area.

Dunnottar Castle - By far one of the most amazing sites in Scotland. The castle is perched on cliffs overhanging the North Sea and provides stunning views. The best way to get there for adventurous folk is the mile-long hike from the town of Stonehaven. The hake is a narrow path along the cliffs that provides stunning views the entire way. Definitely a must-see.

Stonehaven Harbor - The harbor forms what I would call the town center. There is a collection of local pubs and restaurants, though as it is a small town, we are talking about maybe 4 or 5 places. However, having a pint at a table overlooking the harbor and hanging with locals is a great experience. This town is very small, and in the town there are very few travelers, so it is a great chance to meet and talk to locals.

SATURDAY, DAY 2: We got up at 8am & had our 1st Scottish Breakfast! I was excited because today was the day we were seeing DUNNOTTAR CASTLE which is my favorite castle in Scotland! I love the dramatic clifftop setting! It started out misty, foggy and rainy but then cleared up after 30minutes. I had seen the castle in 1999 but only from far away as we were with a tour group & it was only a photo opportunity. I love ruined castles. This was the location for the movie "Hamlet". I love th...

Dunnottar Castle has one of the most spectacular locations of any castle. A collection of buildings from various periods crown the top of a promontory that rises steeply from the surrounding sea and land. Dunnottar was in use many centuries before any of the remaining buildings were erected. It was the site of one of Scotland's first churches and remained an important Christian site for many years before being developed into a fortress. Despite its obvious defensive potential Dunnottar was ...
