Stockton Beach May 20, 2009
Stockton beach is one of those nice uncrowded beaches in NSW. Apart from the nice beach, little cafe with amazing view and obviously nice water for a swim or surf, it has a surprise behind the beach. Here you are suddenly in a different world in amidst these amazing sand dunes. You can go on 4WD tours but I would recommend going sandboarding instead. A 4WD has to drive you there anyway so you experience a bit of driving in these cool sand dunes.

Then the fun really starts. After a short briefing, you walk up this high sand dune and get to board down it on a mini version of a snowboard. You are not strapped in but as they tell you, so long as you go straight ahead there is nothing to worry about. I definitely recommend doing some sandboarding if you have time. They say you get an hour to board but when we got there they guys there were very laid back so got to go for as long as you could manage to walk up the sand dune.

4WD on Sand Dunes Feb 27, 2008
Stockton Beach is an adults playground. You need to have a 4WD to get onto the beach or join a tour. I haven't been on a tour so I'm not sure how much they are. If you don't join a tour you have to purchase a pass. These can be purchased from one of the nearby service stations, or a visitor centre. They cost about $15 for a three day pass or about $30 for an annual pass. Camping is permitted and doesn't cost any extra. Dogs are allowed, but on a lead. Fires are also allowed.

On the Road Again
Here we are, on the road again.  Figuring we'd take advantage of the holiday time off, Rod and I rented a car and hit up the east coast.  Our goal is to make to Brisbane in about 10 days or…Stockton Beach stretched all the way back to Newcastle, a 45 minute drive away!  We're talking desert-like…
