back in stirling. this was part of the the tour. which is good cuz, we did not have time the other day. Stirling Castle is a castle in Stirling, one of the largest and most important, both historically and architecturally, in Scotland and indeed Western Europe. The Castle sits atop the Castle Hill, a volcanic crag, and is surrounded on three sides by steep cliffs, making it easily defensible. This fact, and its strategic position, have made it an important fortification from the earliest time...

I finally got lazy today and broke down and paid for a hop on/hop off bus around Stirling, mostly because I wanted to see three sites, and two of them were outside of town on either end of one another. I started out this morning, avoiding my friend from last night (see previous entry), and got on the bus. I hit up the Wallace Monument first. There are something like 263 steps to the top, with stops on the way in rooms housing such exhibits as a sword Wallace used in bat...

Took another daytrip out of Edinburgh to Loch Lomond and the Stirling Castle. The tour took us through Glasgow, driving round the city, passing the Glasgow University (and other sites which I now forget) before stopping at the St. George Square for a 20 minute photo op. Pretty typical town square, and from what I saw, the operators could've arranged for a better site for the stop. After a few snaps here and there, we were summoned back on the bus where we would resume our j...

While the name Haggis may put some people off (if you don't know what it is, check out one of my later posts), I had heard many great things about this tour company. It was very well organized and we were off on your tour in no time. Our first stop, not too far outside of Edinburgh, was the William Wallace monument in Stirling. The monument itself is a tower that extends from the top of a hill, and can be seen for quite a distance though. When we pulled up, our guide (...

I've always wanted to travel to Scotland, especially because my husband's ancestorial heritage is from Scotland, in the northwest. Absolutley beautiful, the castles, the lochs, the abbeys, the people and the rocky coastlines. We even experienced a Highland game while traversing about. A must see.

the first long stop was in stirling, where we listened to the william wallace story and overlooked the area surrounding the hill there. the wallace monument from the picture was clearly done after the braveheart movie and left a bit of a cheesy flavor to the place :)

The National Wallace Monument (generally known as the Wallace Monument) is a tower standing on the summit of Abbey Craig, a hilltop near Stirling in Scotland. It commemorates William Wallace, the 13th century Scottish hero.
The tower was constructed following a fundraising campaign which accompanied a resurgence of Scottish national identity in the 19th century. In addition to public subscription, it was partially funded by contributions from a number of foreign donors, including Italian nat...

I managed to have enough funds to hire a car during my time in Scotland, so to make things easier i hired a car so i could nip around and visit relatives much easier.Today though, i made a trip up to Stirling, which only takes about 45 minutes. It was here i visited the Wallace Monument and Stirling Castle. Awesome historical buildings! The first stop was to Wallace monument and if the steep walk up to the base of the moument wasn't tough enough, there is about 240 steps to endure to make it u...

In hindsight, I reckon this trip taught me an important lesson - plan before you go. Oh, and while you're at it, plan by YOURSELF! My friend told me that I must visit Stirling, the word "Braveheart" being repeated again and again. Being a Hollywood junkie, I could instantly recognise lots of photo op's in this place and couldn't wait to get there. She also did explain that the city by itself is very small, and i'd be spending most of my day between the William Wallace Tower and then the...
