My Castle Apr 17, 2015
This was by far the best Castle in Scotland. Everything was very majestic and hands-on. The town of Stirling is also the best place i've been so far! The vibe and atmosphere of the castle was very majestic! You were able to go into all the places within the castle walls and there was tourguides everywhere to help with any questions about the history of this wonderful castle. Not to mention how awesome it is to have my own Castle! Sterling Stirling, same thing. Overall , great place!

When in Stirling, go see this Apr 06, 2011
Stirling Castle sits atop and hill, overlooking the surrounding valley. As with any tourist attraction, the workers are dressed in kitschy court attire and willing to take pictures for a fee. The best part about the Castle is the view from atop the ramparts and the old hunting grounds with landscaping jobs resembling crop circles.

Many of the buildings are undergoing renovation and closed to the public. Those that are open contain uninspiring decor and trinkets from ages past. One of the buildings plays host to a Scottish Military museum, which was rather interesting. Even as a girl who cares very little about warfare and weapons, the walk through exhibits were informative and chalk full of uniforms, weapons and battle plans from medieval history to the present day.

If you are in Stirling or a hard-core fan of historical castles, this is a must see. And don't forget to check out the cemetary next door! It had some of the coolest tombstones I've ever seen, including a gigantic pyramid and a life-sized glass angel.

Stirling Castle Nov 20, 2010
Stirling Castle is a very impressive castle in central Scotland, which is currently under restoration. I might give it an extra star once its finished.

The main parts of the castle are the great hall, the chapel royal, the palace, the ramparts, and a military museum. There has been a lot of restoration work done, giving the castle a strangely new feeling. Of course, it is wonderful to be able to get an idea of what the castle looked like new. Except that it wouldn't have looked clean, and empty, it would have been busy and filthy and alive.

The hall is spectacular, but the chapel royal is empty and clinical feeling. When I went, in November 2010, you couldn't go into the palace which meant that there really wasn't much to see for your £9 entrance fee.

The setting is undeniably fantastic, with great views over the river Forth and the surrounding hills. it is fun to stand in the gardens and look over the land, imagining the epic battles that would have taken place there.

All in all, though, this isn't the best castle in the region. it hasn't got the range of interesting displays of Edinburgh, and it's far more expensive than the properly ruined castles in places like Tantallon. If you have a personal connection to Stirling, or can get some money off coming in, it's probably a good idea. But otherwise, I'm not sure I'd rush back.

Historic must see Nov 24, 2008
If your into castle's Stirling is a must see it is packed with history and if your like me I love seeing how a place used to look many years before. I would recommend taking a tour instead of looking around yourself as you can learn so much more.

The gardens and views from the back of the castle are spectacular and if you can get to see the place on a sunny day its so worth it - which is obviously a hit or a miss while in Scotland.

Loads of historic and attractions are free admission on St.Andrews Day so to save money why not try and make your visit then.
