Steven's Pass Ski Resort Stevens Pass Reviews
Steven's Pass Ski Resort (as compared by Seattle area Skiiers) Jan 04, 2012
Steven’s pass is one of the more popular ski resorts in Washington State due to its altitude, terrain, and proximity to Seattle. While small by comparison to large resorts nationwide (less than 1200 acres) it has been a commercial success and continued to grow in size, facilities, and customer base for many centuries. As a local Skiier I frequent Steven's Pass resort every year, usually alternating with Crystal Mountain Ski Resort. I would generall not recommend Stevens Pass as a destination ski vacation as there is no on-site logging availible and nearest real facilities are 30 min away by car. It is best visited as a day trip from Seattle.
Comparison to other nearby popular ski areas:
-Summit at Snoqualmie: While an additional drive from Seattle (Snoqualmie is only 45min vs 1.5 hours), Stevens is known as having much more varied terrain as well as a larger amount of more difficult terrain. Snoqualmie has the reputation of being a “learners” mountain which offers mostly short easy runs while Stevens has several very long lift accessed blues as well as a variety of black terrain on the front and backside of the mountain.
-Crystal: As the largest resort in Washington Crystal is often reviewed as being similar by Seattle area residents or often preferred as it has more facilities more terrain. As Stevens is north of Seattle vs South (both about 1.5 hours drive) skiers who live slightly north of Seattle (like Everett) often exhibit preference for Stevens Pass due to the slightly shorter drive time.
-Mount Baker: Baker is frequently regarded as having the most favorable terrain of all the WA resorts due to its unique meteorological location which results in record snowfall and large open bowls. The primary complaints by skiiers when comparing to Stevens is it’s lack of high speed lifts, very basic facilities, and comparatively long drive times (almost double).
