Stellenbosch is largely a university town in the heart of the Cape winelands. Would you want much more as a visitor? Great parties and great wine. There are some superb wine farms, restaurants, pubs and clubs that go well with the natural splendour.
Stellenbosch is situated about 50 kilometres east of Cape Town, along the banks of the Eerste River. It is the second oldest European settlement in South Africa, after Cape Town. The town became known as the City of Oaks due to the large number of oak trees that were planted by its founder, Simon van der Stel, to grace the streets and homesteads.
Franschhoek was originally a settlement of the French Huguenots who came over to South Africa to avoid persecution. They settled and started to produce wine. Great job too.
