Statendam of Holland America Line

This was my fourth (4th) cruise with Holland America, and sixth (6th) total, and the service from the Filipino and Indonesian crew was excellent. They are outstanding, very friendly and efficient.
The food was excellent as always, Holland America has the best food from all the cruise lines I have tried. They tend to be more expensive than other cruise lines and generally cater to older people. Most of the passengers are retired American and Canadian folks. Which means that you do not have that much noise and rowdy folks roaming around. Which is what I generally like. The ships tend to be very well cared. However this one was an exception. As soon we boarded we noticed a foul smell, later I learned they had a problem with their used water system, and was told it has happened before. The whole of the back smelled like raw sewer.
I would suggest not to use the Statendam and chose another ship if possible.
