Stari most / The Old Bridge Reviews
Historic Symbol of Bosnia Mar 13, 2015
The Old Bridge known as Stari Most to the locals is the most significant landmark of Mostar and holds dear to the heart of many Bosnians. The single arch structure connects the left and right bank of river Neretva. With a span of 28.7 m, it stands at a height of 21 m from the water level during Summer. This bridge separates the 2 sides of the people, the Christians and the Muslims.
The original bridge was built in 1566 during the Ottoman Empire. It was sadly destroyed during the War in 1993 and the one that we see and walk on today was re-built in. The bridge was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2005.
Walking on this bridge you cant help but feel for the true Bosnian people and how much suffering they went through in a war not too long ago...
There are also some locals who would jump off the bridge for your amusement. He will go around collecting money from tourists and then jump off the bridge for your phototaking amusement.
