Starý Most Bratislava Reviews
In memories of a war... Apr 02, 2008
While in Bratislava you should try crossing the Donau on the Starý Most (old bridge). The bridge was originally called Most Červenej armády (Red Army Bridge) and was completed in 1945 by The Red Army and german prisoners of war. It was not meant to be more then a tempoary solution but the bridge still stands today and serves as a pathway between the old Lido area and Bratislava center.
The bridge is constructed in pure iron, and consists of two car lanes and a wooden pathway for pedestrians.
At night time, the bridge today is a much apreciated meeting spot for young lovers.
However there is so much more to this bridge. For one the mere structure of the bridge brings on thoughts of imprissionment, war and times where freedom was abscent, and inbetween all this at first you feel like the bridge is gonna crash when you set food on the wooden bricks that makes the pedestrian pathway. However it won't.
It's a wonderfull feeling and should be done once both in night and daytime....really makes you wonder about the world we live in..and how histroy has affected it.
