We had a bit of time after having to check out of our hotel so we were really grateful for having packed lightly. We just had a walk around one more time, looking for a place to have breakfast first and then just taking in some more of the atmosphere before it was time to get a subway ride to JFK. We thought we had figured out the system by then but still somehow managed to get a subway going in the wrong direction. New Yorkers turned out to be really nice and helpful people though, they told...

The flight was pretty normal but the
approach to Heathrow was probably the most amazing I have ever seen. There was
some cloud but it was just the right thickness so that you could see it being
illuminated by the city below, glowing orange in the dark in some places,
completely black in others where the cloud was thicker. It is very difficult to
describe, but it was one of the most beautiful light effects I have seen. Shame
my camera was in the overhead locker... I'm not expecting to se...

Will get back to this once I have finished the busy period of my degree. VERY incomplete at the moment, sorry! Introducing sights, landmarks and things to do in London and some interesting places further afield

Well, it was more or less the same as getting to Corfu, but this time the (lack of) organisation at the aiport added to the chaos - really added to it! I have never seen a small airport that was so busy and full of people. By the time we had made it to the check-in desk it was almost closing. That turned out to be a good thing though because one of our group had forgotten his bag on the bus and was desperately trying to find out which bus it was and where it might have gone. Somehow he got lu...

A quick note on the dates in this blog: they're a guess! I only know we left after the end of the exam period (obviously) and were back before the official end of term and the summer ball. I didn't have a digital camera at that point so that wasn't any help either. Never mind though, I don't think it really matters...

Well, going back to the UK wasn't easy. Even though I had no idea how much I would regret it in about 2 weeks time. I didn't have to take time off work for this trip, but I did miss one supervision session and when I showed up for the next session a fortnight later my supervisor was surprised. She said "I'd have expected you to stay there!"Basically, it was a bit of an anticlimax being here rather than where the action was. But I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and the amazing party atmosphere tha...

Getting back to the UK really revealed just how small Nimes airport is. The arrivals hall is also where you go for departures, which is not necessarily surprising. But there was only a tiny kiosk and one small cafe before passport control so we decided to try and get some drinks but then see whether we could stock up more at the duty free. What a silly idea. After passport control you get directly to the waiting room for gates 1,2 and 3, which has about 25 seats and a drinks vending machine -...

We went with some friends to Thorpe Park (http://www.thorpepark.co.uk/) in search of some thrills, to get scared sh**less and try not to loss our lunch while doing the loop-de-loop. We tried out a number of the rides on offer (if you go there, get the fast track pass - waiting in line is not fun) but the Colossus, which was the first real roller coaster we went on, was voted the best of the day. The ride lasted quite a while and with all the loops and corkscrews provided alot of e...
