Stage Door Deli Alexandria Reviews
Stage Door Deli Jan 08, 2014
A far cry from the fancier dining establishments in Old Town Alexandria, the Stage Door Deli fills an important gap. It is open late, till midnight on weeknights and 2 a.m. on Friday and Saturday. The place is small and cramped with bathrooms so tiny a contortionist would have difficulty squeezing in. The deli reeks of stale cigarette smoke from the bar next door and has creaky floorboards, occupying a building that dates from the 1800s.
Yet the food surprisingly is decent. I can't say much for the deli sandwiches, since I'm partial to their burgers which demand to be devoured. You place your order at the counter, take a seat, and they bring it to you when ready. Breakfast is also served all day.
Stage Door is just a few blocks from the Metro on King Street. If you're out late and need to fill your stomach, it does the job, just keep in mind that it is literally a hole-in-the-wall joint. Nothing upscale about it, but sometimes that has its own rugged charm.
