Friendly service at Stage Deli Nov 11, 2009
Stage Deli is convenient place to eat in midtown Manhattan, close to Times Square and and the Theatre District. An array of sandwiches and speciality triple decker sandwiches along with item like blintzes, potato pancakes, and goulash are on the menu.

We found no trouble being seated on a weekday evening. Susan ordered a Half Pastrami sandwich and I ordered a Half Corned Beef sandwich, both with potato salad. (New York deli sandwiches are typically huge, so we thought the half route was best.)

Comaparisons are obviously to be made with Carnegie Deli, just up 7th Avenue. Stage Deli wins in friendliness of staff and service and a less frenzied atmosphere. Carnegie might have a slight edge in tastiness of their sandwich meat.

In any event, Stage Deli is recommneded as a great place to enjoy New York food and atmosphere.

Stage Deli is a true New York sandwich shop. You walk in and instantly on your right is a case full of huge cakes and desserts. The staff is friendly and you usually will have to wait for a seat. The seating is tight as they try to get a many people in as possible but its nothing to complain about. The front of the restaurant has huge windows that allow you to people watch while the people outside get to stare at the LARGE (sitting 5 inches high) sandwich sitting in front of you. You are first served dill pickles before ordering. You will have trouble ordering as the menu is packed with food items. Their specialty is sandwiches, over 20 in total, all named after famed stars, comedians, athletes, and politicians. Most of the food comes from New York itself. Meats include pastrami, corned beef, brisket, tuna or chopped liver. Like I said before, the sandwiches are huge. Most people could not finish one in one sitting so I would suggest sharing or getting a half sandwich. It is all reasonably priced with prices between $6-$14. It is just a short walk from Times Square so you are not missing out on anything.
