St Rumbold's Tower Mechelen Reviews
A walk in the clouds Sep 04, 2010
The unfinished tower of the Saint Rumbold is Cathedral the most significant landmark of Mechelen: the tower can be seen from far and wide. It is not merely a church tower, but also a belfry and carillon. Since 1999 it is featured on the UNESCO heritage list.
Since March 2009, the tower is open to the public. You can climb the 538 steps all the way to the top. Along the way you get to admire the various bellfry chambers with the huge bells and the clock mechanism.
The climax of this tour brings you to the lookout point on the very top: a glass walkway from where you have breathtaking views on Mechelen, Antwerp's harbour and Brussels' Atomium. Certainly worth the walk up!
