St. Patrick’s Cathedral in the New York is a homage to the Catholic way of seeing house of god, worth the Menhattan’s need to impress. It is made in Neo-Gothic style and it is currently under incredibly expensive reconstruction (when I heard that they are paying 175 million dollars for reconstruction I simply could not believe it…). This monumental place is still open and you can go around and see this seat of the Archdiocese of New York. Cathedral has beautiful stained glass windows and nice organ. Location is very central, on 51st and Fifth avenue, surrounded with the iconic buildings and establishments. It looks to me that everyone that visits NY comes here to shoot few images and I was one of them...

There are better things to do in NY. It's really beautiful and has interesting architecture, but there are definitely more impressive churches in Europe. Save your time. Maybe go in for a quick peek, but if you have limited time, I'd skip this.

If you are in the midtown area, I would recommend going to Times Square, make your way east to Rockefeller Center (and Observation Deck and/or NBC building), then continue east to St. Patrick's Cathedral.

St. Patrick's Cathedral is right across the street from Rockefeller Center, about 1 block. It is a large cathedral with very high ceilings typical of Gothic architecture. There are lots of statues of Saints, stained glass, and dark wooden pews. It's fairly quiet, dark, and deep

St. Patrick's Cathedral is famous for a lot of weddings of the rich and famous of NYC. On Christmas, the Archdiocese always broadcasts Christmas prayers and blessings from this church.

It's worth a half hour look while in the area. Perhaps longer if you are a religious person or interested in architecture etc. It is a cool site, a gothic cathedral next to huge stores, buildings, etc.

A Majectic Gothic Space at St. Patrick's Nov 12, 2009
St. Patrick's Cathedral on Fifth Avenue is the largest Roman Catholic cathedral in the USA.

The cathdral was begun in 1858, when the surrounding land was nearly countryside in the far northern suburbs of New York City. It was named for St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland, as Irish immigrants were the majority of the Catholic population at the time. Construction continued after the the Civil War era and the main buidling was dedicated in 1879. St. Patrick's is Gothic in design, with twin 330 ft. (100 m) spires added in 1880.

I am a Long Island girl...that being said, unlike most Long Island girls, I do not get to the Big Apple much.  Even when I travel the world, I always prefer being out in the country rather than …New York.       Our next stop is St. Patrick's Cathedral.  Located on Fifth Avenue between 50th…
