St. Nicolas Church Dwingeloo Reviews
Unusual onion shaped tower Jun 25, 2011
The 14th century St. Nicolas Church has an unusual onion shaped tower.
Next to this special tower, there's also a remarkable statue in front of this church. It is called ‘de Juffer van Batinghe’ (the miss of Batinghe). In the 18th century, the daughter of the havezathe of Batinghe (havezathe was an important nobleman in that area) would drive by the church which was being built then. As she drove by on her horse, she would flirt with the general contractor, who couldn’t keep his thoughts with his work because of this enticing young woman.
If you happen to be in Dwingeloo this church is worth walking by. In the summer months, it is sometimes open for visits.
