Ancient crosses of Iona Sep 01, 2010
You will no doubt be told how spiritual the Island of Iona is. When numerous coaches are left near the ferry at Fionnphort on Mull for their passengers to take the short trip across, the appropriate adjective would be 'crowded'. if you want it to feel spiritual, either go as early as possible in the morning or, better, spend a night there.

The island is famous as an early centre of Christianity in Scotland and there are several old crosses there. Be careful if looking for a website as most of them are about silver versions of the cross, for sale as jewellery!

I chose St Martin's Cross for this review because it is close to the abbey in the open air but you should also go into the museum on the left side of the abbey and look at St John's Cross.
